Science, Technology & Innovation Studies is a peer reviewed open access online journal that has been published bi-annually between 2005 and 2014. The policy of STI Studies was to publish analytical, theoretical and methodological studies on the creation and use of scientific knowledge and its relation to society, on the development of technology and its social impact and control, and on innovation in industry and in the public sector.
Initially, STI Studies was launched to provide a focused forum for the German speaking community of researchers in the field of science, technology, and innovation studies to present their research to a broader international audience. However, the responses the editors received after the first years indicated that STI-Studies meanwhile had become a “normal” journal, which generates requests (and article submissions) from all over the world. In 2008, thus, the editorial policy was changed, opening the journal for contributions from international STI researchers as well.
The journal was founded by Ingo Schulz-Schaeffer (TU Berlin), Raymund Werle (MPIfG Köln), and Johannes Weyer (TU Dortmund), who also were the journal’s editors from 2005 to 2010. From 2011 to 2014 the journal was edited by Ulli Dolata (Univ. of Stuttgart), Martina Merz (Univ. of Klagenfurt), Harald Rohracher (Linköping University), Ingo Schulz-Schaeffer, and Johannes Weyer.
